Summary, etc. BRITAIN INVADES, AMERICA FIGHTS BACK: tells the story of rock's renaissance between 1964 and 1966. Vintage footage captures the Beatles in 1963, the Rolling Stones in a 1965 TV performance, the Kinks, and the Who. Billy Harry, one of John Lennon's oldest friends, offers a personal tour of Liverpool pointing out spots where John and Paul hung out and wrote their first songs. Bruce Springsteen talks about an era when rock 'n' roll was still young. Also included, clips of the Beach Boys , The Supremes, Lovin' Spoonful. THE SOUNDS OF SOUL: traces the rise of a new form of musical artistry. Rooted in gospel, developed under the influence of mainstream pop music, with a strong dose of rhythm and blues feeling, soul first blossomed in the late 1950's. Includes pioneers Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, Jackie Wilson, James Brown. Three generations of soul singers- the O'Jays, Daryl Hall and Gerald Levert get together at Harlem's Apollo Theater to discuss their craft and the meaning of soul. Smokey Robinson recounts the origins of "Ooo Baby Baby" and clips of Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross and the Supremes take us back to the great voices of soul's golden age.
