"Eskimo Artist: Kenojuak" is a film essay showing one printmaker's sources of inspiration and stone-printing technique. (20 Min.) Film 2. "The Living Stone" This film shows the inspiration, often related to belief in the supernatural, behind Inuit sculpture. The Inuit's approach is to release the image he sees imprisoned in the rough stone. The film centers on an old legend about the carving of the image of a sea spirit to bring food to a hungry camp. 1958 34 Min. Film 3. "Sananguagat: Inuit Masterworks" The true art of the Inuit, the expression in stone, ivory and bone of their life and their animal co-dwellers. Juxtaposed with close-ups of the exhibits are views of the daily life in the Iglootik settlement of the Northwest Territories. 1974 24 Min. 4. "Pictures Out of My Life" presents the work of Pitseolak, now in her seventies, one of the most famous of the graphic artists of the Cape Dorset (Baffin Island) artists' colony and co-operative. Her colored pencil and felt-pen drawings vividly illustrate her memories of past life in the Arctic, and of the birds, animals and spirits that figured so large in the daily life of the Inuit. . 1973 13 Min. |
